The “skull” trend…

Sometimes fashion is just made of trends. A first one has a striking idea which fits the taste of large masses and this idea become the trend of the season. You will find that pattern everywhere, under different categories of prices, better done or less well done. Sometimes is even not about inventing something new, but simply to incorporate known patterns into a new design concept, adapting and manipulating the pattern into a different or even totally opposite meaning from the original one. Remember when Dolce and Gabbana made the “rosary” necklace? Well, I never worn a “usual” rosary in my life , but the Dolce and Gabbana’s yes. See what I mean?

Today I was thinking again at this recurring “skull” theme we actually see everywhere. I personally like it, when and if well integrated in the whole styling. Skulls are something existing in the dark/goth and metal culture since always.. so, nothing new under the sun, except that now, we have big design brands and griffes proposing the same theme in a more fashionable aesthetic way. And here come prints of every kind, design cuts which make a shirt or a dress appealing , embellished skulls of every kind, different  interpretations and fabrics. What I like to call “the hand of the artist”able to create the syncretism that will convince a girl who usually dress ribbons, to get skulled (as long as the skull is pink, i guess) at least once.

Design is exactly that: a surplus value made of  conception, technique and materials to a product or motive of every kind. This technical and cultural contribution can  determine a global success.

I usually don’t care about at the price of an item, even if Iadmit to buy something expensive gives a good feeling sometimes:). I look at the quality of the design, if it fits my taste, if it’s worth the price. If I can afford it, good for me, if not it will remain in my dreams.

What I find worth the price, well done and intriguing regarding this “skulls trend” is, for example, the “Skull De Jouy” line from AllSaints, a perfect syncretism between trend, culture and manifacture in a very original interpretation and proposal. Not the usual skulls, in this line, but  hand drawn ram skulls and pelicans in foliage to to recreate a true French Toil de Jouy print. the most original interpretation on the market up to now, I would say. “Skull De Jouy” print is available on different dresses models and shirts.

Today I am going to propose you two different stylings, with a little elegant touch of “skulls”, keeping always elegant  without overstyling:

FIRST:

Skull De Jouy Thoas dress from AllSaints,  made of chiffon and silk georgette, on a white color base. I think, given the motive and the appeal.. with a strong color at my lips and fitting shoes, this dress would make me a perfect dark lady in white, with a vintage romantic touch.

Net ankle boot from Marsèll featuring a peep-toe, a netted texture, a peaked front, a large opening at the back and a chunky stacked mid-high heel.

Illamasqua growl color lipstick

A fresh vintage look, with a touch of casual and innocence with a very dark soul…

SECOND:
Hydri Dress from AllSaints in Black (the same dress design is available with the Skull De Jouy print: Skull De Jouy dress as well)
Wrap style dress made using a premium black Japanese technical fabric with a super gloss effect to the surface, fluidity and soft hand feel.
This dress is in my wish list since many month, the touch is really soft and the effect very glossy. the fabric impressively elegant.
Black leather box clutch from Alexander McQueen featuring a contrasting gold frame, front leather spider web design, contrasting gold signature skull clasp with contrasting black crystal embellishment and detachable black leather buckled shoulder strap.
Gold Tone Skull Shoe from Alexander McQueen: Black leather high heel pump featuring a peep toe with a gold tone metal skull with black crystal detail.
Elegant, posh and letal…

Well, for today I think I had my job done again:) talk to you soon again with new hints on being a perfect “dark lady”…
